INNKEEPER INFORMATION
Do you have an outgoing personality, love meeting and socializing with the most interesting and friendly people, and enjoy the cozy peacefulness of a small mountain town?
If you are, then we have an awesome job opportunity for you!
We are looking for a super friendly, outgoing, hard-working person to run day-to-day operations at the Wildflower Bed and Breakfast. The Wildflower is located in a super-friendly mountain town (think “Mayberry”) with hiking trails, fishing, horseback riding, antique shops, lot of downtown shopping, and live music.
AROUND THE AREA
Mountain View Area
Our little mountain town of Mountain View, Arkansas is located in the heart of the Ozark Mountains in Central/North Arkansas. It is on a plateau surrounding by beautiful mountain ridges. The White River runs through the north end of the county, which is perfect for fishing. The Sylamore Creek intersects with the White River providing a great place for canoeing and kayaking. There are plenty of hiking trails, mountain bike trails, and great overlooks. The Blanchard Springs Caverns are a must see, along with the springs and Mirror Lake.
Mountain View is also home to many musicians and artisans. There is live music every weekend at the Picking Park, the porch of the MV Music Store, and the Court Square stage. Club Possum is right next door and has a show four nights per week. The Arkansas Craft School provides a place for folks to learn many types of arts and crafts. Artisans display their wares at the Arkansas Craft Guild Handcraft Museum. All of these locations are within walking distance of the Wildflower.
The Ozark Folk Center State Park is less than a mile from the Wildflower. Our work campers get free access any time. The craft village at the OFC has over 20 hand craft artisans that work daily on their crafts, including pottery, candle making, black smithing, wood carving, and so much more. They also have a 1000 seat theater where guest musicians come for concerts. Several times per year, they host music workshops for folk instruments.
There are other activities as well, such as horseback riding, Loco Ropes tree top ropes course and zip lines, several other music venues, and an excellent disc golf course.
Even though we are a small town, we do have a Walmart Supercenter and a Harps. There are several medical clinics and a top-rated hospital. There is chiropractic care, massage therapy, physical therapy, and a gym.
Our Guests
Bed and Breakfast guests are typically in their 50’s and older. They are usually very social people who love meeting and talking with others. Several times per year, we have groups that return together on an annual basis. We are also blessed to have returning guests who have become like family to us. Some have “interesting” personality quirks, but most are just genuinely delightful. An “undesirable” guest is an exceedingly rare occurrence.
The Wildflower is located on the Northeast corner of the court square. It’s a very short walk to restaurants, museums, shops, the Pickin’ Park, the Music Store, and other lodging. We have several festivals throughout the season that are centered around downtown, making the Wildflower the most popular lodging spot for these weekends.
Security
The Wildflower is protected by a roving security guard. Mr. Kitty lives on the back porch and is fed by the innkeeper. Although he looks slow and sleepy, he maintains this facade to hide his ninja-like skills. Many of our returning guests ask about Mr. Kitty if he has not greeted them promptly. He has been a fixture of the Wildflower for 7 years. He is a very gentle and friendly cat to everyone.
THE WILDFLOWER BED AND BREAKFAST
The Wildflower Bed and Breakfast consists of 8 rooms, 2 on the ground floor and 6 upstairs. The building is over 100 years old but is well built with very little maintenance issues. The dining room holds up to 18 people comfortably, but we can add tables to hold up to 22.
The Cottages at the Wildflower are located just next door. They are two cottages in one building with a laundry room in between. They are handicapped accessible and pet friendly. Each one has a king bed and full kitchen.
Club Possum is a music venue and event center located across the main parking lot from the Wildflower. It is a small venue for events, 1000 square feet total with about 800 square feet of public space. We have a free music show featuring local musicians every Tuesday and Thursday night, which is broadcast on the MVMP Facebook page. Friday nights, we host the Pam Setser Show. She is a professional musician (and a super nice lady) who has a weekly show. We rent the space for public and private events as well.
Sister Inn
We also own the Ozark Country Inn which is located about 2 1/2 blocks south of the Wildflower. It is a 7 room Bed and Breakfast with a 2 bedroom cottage.
INNKEEPER POSITION
The Position
We are looking for a single live-in or workamper to fill the innkeeper position at the Wildflower Bed and Breakfast. The innkeeper must be outgoing and friendly with a serving attitude. Basic computers skills are required as well as basic cooking abilities. Detail oriented and a high standard of cleanliness is very much preferred. Lifting of up to 40 pounds may be required.
Duties of the Work Camper
The innkeeper is usually the first contact that guests have with the Wildflower. The innkeeper will greet guests at the door, check them in, take payment for their stay, give a tour of common areas, then show them to their room. The guests will usually ask questions about local attractions, recommended restaurants, the history of the building, etc. The innkeeper is also available by text or phone if there are any requests or issues during the guests stay. A virtual number is provided so the innkeeper doesn’t have to share their personal phone number. Daily housekeeping is not provided, but a guest may occasionally request fresh towels.
Breakfast is included with all stays within the main house and is offered at an extra cost to Cottage guests and is a major part of the BnB experience. The innkeeper is responsible for purchasing food items, preparing and serving breakfast each morning there is a guest. Some items can be prepared the day before and baked fresh in the morning. For small groups, breakfast is served individually; for large groups, breakfast is served on the buffet. Occasionally, there will be a guest with special breakfast needs (vegan, allergies, etc.) that requires the innkeeper to deviate from the regular menu. The innkeeper is also responsible for setting the tables before breakfast and completing breakfast clean up afterward.
The innkeeper is also partially responsible for housekeeping duties. Although we have a full time housekeeper, the innkeeper may need to assist when occupancy requires rooms to be “flipped” (a guest checking out with another guest checking in to the same room on the same day). The innkeeper will also be responsible for keeping laundry clean, folded, and ready for use.
When guests check out, the innkeeper is responsible for ensuring that keys are returned, any issues are addressed, and the guests are encouraged to leave a review and return for a future stay.
The property management system software is easy to use with a little training. There are video tutorials specific to the Wildflower available. The innkeeper will use the software to check in and check out guests, take payments for lodging and gift shop sales, and make changes to reservations.
Other duties may arise that are not fully described here, but this is a generally comprehensive overview.
The Team
We have an AWESOME team that makes up our work family. Kayla McIntire is the operations coordinator for the two bed and breakfasts, the cottages, as well as the event center. Blake Feagin is the innkeeper at the Ozark Country Inn. Jessica White is the full time housekeeper for all of the properties. Gresham McMillon is the sound and broadcast engineer for our music shows, but he is the all around help as well, including kitchen help on busy mornings. Kailee Spickes-Jestice is the scheduler for musicians for the event venue.
We are blessed to have this work family that are all dedicated to helping each other. The innkeeper always has a resource for questions and concerns from not just me (Chris, the owner) but from co-workers.
Living Space
For a live-in innkeeper, there is a small apartment in the main house of the Wildflower for innkeeper’s quarters. It has it’s own private bathroom with a shower and closet, large bedroom with a closet/utility room, wide hallway, and large living room with electric fireplace. There is a covered deck in back.
For a full time RV’er, the RV pad has full hookups (50 amp electric, water, and sewer) and includes fiber optic broadband Wi-Fi. It is located just behind the Club Possum Event Venue, so there is some privacy from the guests. It can accommodate a 45 foot motor home/camper trailer. As with the BnB, it is within walking distance of the Court Square, restaurants, shops, Pickin’ Park, music store, and other attractions.
Compensation
The first 15 hours of each work week will be deducted for living space. Each hour worked after 15 hours will be paid at $12 per hour. This can either be paid on a contract basic (1099 contract worker) or paid as a W2 employee as preferred by the workamper. Wages are paid through direct deposit every 2 weeks.
There are several nice perks along with the basic compensation. There’s always breakfast left overs available. We usually have a work family get together regularly with all of the staff here. Free admission to the Ozark Folk Center State Park and a free tour of Blanchard Springs Caverns is a great perk. Guests frequently leave tips and/or bring gifts for the innkeeper.
Time Off
Since our busy time is through the weekend, days off will be during the week. Usually, Tuesdays and Wednesdays are days of for the work camper, but that may vary. For a weekend or more than two days off, a 2 week notice is required.
CONCLUSION
I hope this answers all of the main questions that you may. Please feel free to email me at info@ozarkmtnreservations if you have any other questions or concerns.
On a personal note, we love to involve our work campers in activities as much as they wish such as music jams, board and card games, meals together, and other social activities. We also want to respect your privacy.
Thank you for your interest. Please feel free to look at our Facebook pages, our websites, our YouTube channel, or just give us a call at 870-214-3388.
